Pre-NCT Emissions Check
The NCT test is used to measure a vehicle’s road worthiness; a vehicle cannot be driven on the road if it has failed the NCT. During an NCT test the exhaust system is checked in two ways -firstly, they check the exhaust system for any leaks and secondly they measure the levels of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons present in the gas emissions coming from the vehicle. If a leak is found or if your vehicle’s exhaust gas exceeds the acceptable levels of pollution then you will fail your NCT inspection.
At Auto Exhausts we provide a comprehensive pre-NCT emissions check for your vehicle. We use a state of the art gas analyser to run the exact same test that would be run during the NCT, measuring the vehicle emissions at both high and low engine idle. Using this gas analyser we are able to accurately assess whether your vehicle will pass the NCT test and, if not, what steps you need to take to ensure a pass.
An emissions test failure can be the result of many different factors, for example, a high hydrocarbons reading can indicate problems with the engine management system, a high lamda reading can indicate a leak in the exhaust system and a high carbon monoxide reading can indicate a faulty catalytic converter or lamda sensor.
